Founder and managing partner Haim Dabah is an entrepreneur with over 30 years of experience in  successfully building brands and businesses, with deep relationships in the retail and fashion worlds. The HDS team and its advisors include other entrepreneurs, marketers, and industry insiders…an all around wise and fun bunch of leaders.

We look forward to sharing our joint experience to serve our portfolio companies, and to help you facilitate building a large, successful business.

Bio

Haim Dabah is the Founder and Managing Partner of HDS Capital. He is also the Co-Founder and Operating Manager of Kidbox, the first kids style box offering name brands, significant savings and a mission to clothe children in need. Previously, he was Executive Director, Group President of Li & Fung USA, the $20 billion Hong Kong based global supply chain provider of consumer goods. LF USA, now known as Global Brands Group, manages controlled brands that include Frye, Juicy Couture and Spyder. Haim has over 30 years of deep retail relationships and experience focused on fashion, brand building and marketing. His brand portfolio includes Regatta, Simply Vera Vera Wang, Daisy Fuentes, Ellen Tracy, Nicole Miller, Karl Karl Lagerfeld, Adrienne Vittadini, and Marchesa; as well as Keds and Skechers. He led designer collaborations with retailers such as Macy’s, including Matthew Williamson and Giambattista Valli; and Kohl’s, including Narciso Rodriguez, Derek Lam, Catherine Malandrino, Peter Som, and Elie Tahari. He also led the Oxford team, which produced Target’s collaborations, including Missoni, Proenza Schouler, Jason Wu, Prabal Gurung, Zac Posen, Rodarte, Alexander McQueen, Thakoon, and Jean Paul Gaultier. An expert in the brand management field, he is considered a pioneer of the proprietary brand business model.

In 2007, Haim sold his company, Regatta USA LLC, to Li & Fung and stayed on to run its women’s business. Prior to Regatta, he co-founded Gitano, an apparel and accessory retail brand that was sold to Fruit of the Loom. Haim was an early investor in Isaac Mizrahi. He later sold his equity to Chanel. The Dabah family investment interests also extend to retail, real estate and technology.

Haim is on the advisory boards of Metamorphic Ventures, Brayola, Stylitics, Linc Global and Firstime Ventures. He is also a Disruptor Foundation fellow, and serves on the board of K.I.D.S./Fashion Delivers.

Currently, Mac Dabah serves as Director of the Board and Executive Vice President of Retail & Brand Alliances for Linc Global and is also Co-Founder & Partner of HDS Capital.  In addition, he serves as Director of the Board for Stylitics. Mac is also an active real estate investor in New York City. He previously ran the Dabah family’s private equity fund where he invested in strategic technology companies with a focus on retail and marketing.

Prior to that, Mac was at Regatta USA (acquired by Li & Fung), where he oversaw business development and operations. He has over 10 years of experience in the retail and apparel industry.

Mac graduated from New York University with a Bachelor of Science degree in 2002.

David is a digital media veteran with over 15 years of business development and operational experience with Web services companies. David joined Metamorphic after eight years at Google where he was the second employee in Google’s New York office and on the founding team that launched Google’s advertising monetization strategy and execution. Google was generating $3 million in revenue when David joined. Pursuant to helping wire and structure the regional sales teams, David co-founded Google’s Vertical Markets Group. David and his team worked with Fortune 1000 companies as well as the top global advertising agencies. David’s group had cross-functional responsibility, interacting with product, engineering, public relations, and marketing as well as acting as representation of sales and customers in key businesses such as AdWords, AdSense, and Offline Media Syndication. David was a leader on Google’s hiring and culture committees and was responsible for the hiring of many of Google’s sales and business leaders.

David started his digital media career in business development roles with start-ups Snowball and Adsmart. David understands first-hand the challenges that start-ups all encounter. David is actively involved in helping young companies with monetization strategy, business development, traffic acquisition, hiring, and corporate culture development.

David is a board member of non-profit organizations Girls Who Code and The River Fund. He is also an advisor to the Israeli startup accelerator program IDC Elevator as well as GumGum, the premier in-image advertising platform for publishers and brands, and Taboola, the leading content recommendation and monetization platform..

David graduated with a BA degree from the University of Maryland in 1992.

Fang Cheng is the Chief Executive Officer of Linc Global, Inc. Linc Global is a venture-backed startup based in Silicon Valley, with a mission to make personalized shopping experience a reality for every cross-channel retailer. Previously, Fang co-founded Touchco, a company focusing on a new touch sensing technology and served as Chief Operating Officer. At Touchco, Fang led business development and operations. The company was acquired by Amazon. In addition to her entrepreneurial experiences, Fang had extensive investment management experience at leading hedge funds. Most recently, Vice President and Portfolio Manager at Millennium Partners. She has a Ph.D. in Bioinformatics from New York University.

Michael is Non-Executive Chairman of the Board of Israel Discount Bank of New York, and is on the board of two other non-public companies, MultiPlan (majority owned by Carlyle) and WebLoyalty.com (majority owned by General Atlantic).

He is Chairman of the Board of the 92nd Street Y, and serves on the board of For All Kids Foundation and the USTA Tennis and Education Foundation. He is also President and Director of the Northside Center for Child Development.

Michael was involved with Toys “R” Us for over 20 years, serving as Chairman from 1998 to 2001, and as CEO from 1999 to 2000. Prior to 1983, he was Executive Vice President of Lerner Stores, and preceding that, he was a partner at Ernst & Young in New York. He has also served on the boards of Charming Shoppes, Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia, Medco Health Solutions, Pacific Sunwear of California, United Retail Group, and 4Kids Entertainment.

Appointed by President George W. Bush, Michael served on ACTPN from 2003 to 2004, and has been honored by the ALS Foundation, The Federation of Jewish Philanthropies, United Jewish Appeal and B’nai Brith, the NAACP, the New York Restoration Project, the Video Game Industry, the Discount Store Industry, and is in the Toy Industry Hall of Fame.

Marshall Aronow is the co-founder and CEO of MetTel, a privately held, full suite telecommunications services provider with $300M in annual revenue. MetTel delivers solutions to Fortune 500 clients across United States, Canada and Puerto Rico.

Mr. Aronow is responsible for the strategic direction of the company, defining revenue channels and markets, interfacing with ILECs, investors, and clients. Under his leadership, the company has achieved profitability and consistent growth of over 15% by expanding services and footprint. Through organic growth and strategic acquisitions, Mr. Aronow grew the organization from start-up to over 300 employees.

Prior to his tenure at MetTel, Mr. Aronow founded JDK Partners, a hedge fund specializing in technology and telecommunications. With $25M in assets, the hedge fund achieved 32% growth in the first year and15% growth over lifetime. Mr. Aronow was responsible for creating investment portfolios and managing a full spectrum of investment types, including bonds and stocks.

Mr. Aronow started his career as an independent trader at the New York Mercantile and New York Futures Exchanges, where he traded long and short positions on futures and options and demonstrated consistent gains.

Henry Birdseye Weil is Senior Lecturer at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology Sloan School of Management, President of Weil & Company, Inc., and an IDEO Fellow. He is a widely recognized expert in corporate strategy and market dynamics.

At the MIT Sloan Mr. Weil is part of the Technology, Innovation, Entrepreneurship, and Strategy faculty group. His research focuses on competition in technology-based service industries. It illuminates the effects of management policies, technology developments, social factors, industry structure, and regulation on corporate competitiveness and the behavior of markets. He has studied innovation, commoditization, and value chain dynamics in many industries. Mr. Weil teaches Competitive Dynamics and Strategy which addresses this topic from the perspective of senior corporate executives and Strategic Opportunities in Energy which analyzes the landscape for energy ventures.

Weil & Company, Inc. is an international management consulting firm specializing in corporate strategy for technology-intensive industries, particularly, financial services, energy, media, telecommunications, IT, and transportation. The firm creates competitive strategies to contend with disruptive innovations, new social phenomena, market liberalization, and changes in industry structure. Weil & Company uses computer simulation modelling to analyze the dynamics of markets, competition, profitability, and business value. It advises senior executives of some of the world’s leading corporations.

Another publication “Dynamics of Social Factors in Technological Substitutions,” analyzes the critical effects of lead users, social networks, and customer perceptions on the adoption of innovative technologies. His recent publication, “Why Markets Make Mistakes,” explains why markets routinely and repeatedly misestimate demand growth, allow financial discipline to lapse, engage in unrealistic business planning, and misinterpret technology trajectories.

Joshua Katz is the Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer of El Media Group (EMG). Established in 2005, EMG is the premier subscription music provider for business, servicing over 1000 of the premier luxury brands in hospitality, food and beverage, airports, casinos and retail. EMG also designs and installs audio, video, security and technology solutions for brands in these sectors.

Josh has established and substantially grown EMG without any outside funding or third party capital. He has built EMG solely on the success of the company’s model of reoccurring revenue vis monthly service contracts. Under Josh’s leadership, EMG has grown over 30% annually since 2010.

Prior to EMG, Josh worked for Arista and Jive Records where he developed and oversaw marketing and sales campaigns for many of today’s top music stars. Some of the artists that Josh had a hand in launching include Britney Spears, Backstreet Boys, NSYNC (Justin Timberlake) and many others.

Josh currently serves as an advisor and investor in various technology companies with the concentration in CRM and data for hospitality, nightlife and food and beverage.

Robin Lewis is the founder and CEO of The Robin Report. He is an author, speaker, and consultant for the retail and consumer products industries.

Previously, he was Vice President at Goldman Sachs, where he developed and launched a global retail consulting practice. Prior to Goldman Sachs, as Vice President and Executive Editor of Women’s Wear Daily. Earlier in his career he held executive positions in strategic planning, business development, and brand and marketing management at DuPont, VF Corporation and Grey Advertising.

He is frequently requested by C-level management for advice, consultation and strategic presentations: among them are Bloomingdale’s, JC Penney, Macy’s, VF Corp., Kohl’s, Charming Shoppes, Estee Lauder, Iconix, Footlocker, and Ralph Lauren, as well as financial firms such as The Carlyle Group, Goldman Sachs, and others.

Ovadia is a financial/tech consultant with a range of investment analysis experience, including startups/venture capital, litigation finance, and traditional fixed income.  Most recently, Ovadia co-founded a small venture investment group that sourced and executed development for equity deals within a NYC based web/software development firm.  Previously, Ovadia was a Vice President responsible for deal modeling and product development for Bentham IMF, a litigation funding group, and an Associate at Citadel and BlackRock, where he worked on mortgage valuation and balance sheet consulting, including work for the Federal Reserve backstops of Bear Stearns and AIG in 2008.

Ovadia graduated from Columbia University in 2005, magna cum laude, with a BA in Comparative Religion.
